Hard fought win for the 15s yesterday v Avenue B.

Got off to a a solid start when some miscommunication between the Avenue keeper and a centre back allowed Jack Quinn to steal in and tap home an opener after 15 minutes.

Jack would provide untold issues with his direct running in between the two centre backs. 10 minutes later he would isolate the centre back just inside the right side of the Avenue box from another long ball, the centre back looked to have the situation dealt with but pressure from Jack allowed him to get a touch on the ball and draw a penalty. Richardo Guevara stepped up and slotted the pen away.

The half wasn’t over, just a minute later Avenue pulled one back from a corner.

Avenue proceeded to have the better of the play for the majority of the remainder of the game, they were the physically stronger team and took advantage of it. Forcing us back and making it difficult to build up play, causing us to rely on our own long balls to try get on the break.

Soon after half time Jack Quinn would break from the back line to get a 1v1 chance but the keeper kept him at bay with a fine double save.

Avenue should have pulled at least one more back, hitting the crossbar from distance and having another corner cleared off the line. Some selfless running from Callum Sutton, Dara Walsh and Cian McInerney up front for a lot of lost causes kept the Avenue defence honest.

Avenue tired a bit towards the end of the match allowing us to find more gaps for our passing game, predominantly down the left hand side.

With 5 minutes remaining, a quick long throw in from Richardo into the Avenue box allowed Colon Cavanagh to volley home. Then with the last kick of the game, Colin broke into the box from the inside right channel smashing a powerful shot across the keeper into the far side of the net.
