Thursday 28th April
Pa O'Brien Memorial U14 League Division One
Shannon Hibs 5 - 1 BCFC U14'S
The score doesn't reflect the grit and determination from the team. They could have had two or three In the 2nd half. Shannon Hibs had 4 in the first half and got two one after the other which really helped them. A few fine saves from Cian McInerney kept the score lower.
I can not pick out one person as the whole team gave everything. So proud of their determination and never say never attitude.
Now to work on their speed and fitness and we will have a team that will be a big threat. Our goal was scored by Colin from the penalty spot. Keeper saved but it came straight back to Colin who then blasted it into the net.
CSSL U12 Cup - 1st Round
Corofin Harps 0-9 BunrattyCratloe FC
The 12s are safely through to the 2nd round of the cup after a 0 - 9 win against Corofin in Corofin. A very good team performance. Colin O’Dea was excellent on the night and scored a super hat trick Jack Richter dominated in midfield and scored 2. Conor Gleeson, Alastair Turner, Thomas O’Sullivan and Tommy Byrnes all chipped in with goals as well. We had a squad of 16 on the night and everyone played a significant part. It is very encouraging to see the strength in depth of the team improving all the time.
CSSL U11 Cup - 1st Round
Moneypoint Blue 5-7 BunrattyCratloe FC
U11 Black team travelled to the west coast to play Moneypoint in the U11 cup this evening. We called on the services of the Earley sisters as it was 9v9 and they both gave huge performances. 👏
Game started brightly for us. Cian Murphy was busy in midfield setting up Eoin Lyne for an early cracker. Gavin Jones hit the top corner and Cian Murphy got in on the act to put us 3 up after 20 mins.
Moneypoint had some good options off the bench and came in to it make it 4-3 at ht.
Pressure came early in the 2nd half again and the game was level. Delighted to see the team recover and settle to score some great goals and win 7-5.
Defending is an art of the Hayes boys and Caelan is no different… Some new signings Gearoid Casey and Killian Galvin getting more settled every week and the pacy Caleb Harkins and hard working Ben Carroll gave everything they have.
Hattricks for Cian Murphy and Gavin Jones. On to round 2 we go where tougher challenges await no doubt.
Week off for U11 blue team this week but prep going well for cup game vs Coole Fc next week, where they hope to join their counterparts in Round 2.
LWWSL Premier Division
Listowel Celtic 2-0 BunrattyCratloe Ladies
The Ladies premier league campaign commenced with a long trip to Listowel Celtic.
The Ladies would get off to a bright start creating several chances in the first 15 minutes as they would repeatedly find gaps down the sides of the Listowel centre backs. As the half progressed Listowel increased their footing in the game by taking advantage of Bunratty’s 3-man midfield, drawing out the full backs and playing down the wide channels. Fortunately, a rocksteady performance from Rebecca Dalgarno and Leah Kelly would cut out any crosses that made it into the box.
An enforced change of personnel after 30 minutes would force a change of shape to 4-4-2 but the Ladies took the change in their stride, getting back on top before half time. The chance of the game would arrive as Ella Kelly was set away with a lofted through ball, Listowel keeper Rachel Mulvihill saved well with her feet low to her right. Tara Carew, Amanda Madden and Megan O’Connor would all get into good positions but it would prove difficult to get the final ball or a clean shot away.
Unfortunately, Listowel would strike 5 minutes before time. The ball would fall to Rebecca Horgan on the right hand corner of the box after some hesitation in clearing the ball. Horgan would produce a well placed finish into the far left corner.
In the second half Bunratty would get more joy playing the ball faster and longer over the top of the Listowel defence, but quality chances would be hard to come by as the the Listowel defence held strong for the most part.
After 60 minutes, Aoife O’Connor would double Listowel’s lead with a mirror finish of the first goal from the left hand side.
Both teams had found joy down the wings but it would be the Bunratty midfield of Sabrina McCarthy, Sharon McGorrian, Claire O’Brien and Leanne Boyle that would finally establish control of the centre of the pitch with Listowel continuing to attack the wings. Full backs Cara Conway and Sarah “Zoomie” Cusack coped well with the continuous pressure.
As Bunratty pushed forward looking for a goal, Listowel found more joy with the longer ball. Goalkeeper Caoimhe Nolan would prove vital in keeping the tempo high by sweeping the majority of these up.
As the game wore on, Bunratty’s best chances came from set pieces with Ella Kelly coming close from a free and several excellently delivered corners where the second ball would not bounce right.
FT: Listowel 2-0 Bunratty
